Turning the creased cream lined pages of her polaroid journals, she returns to the feelings she felt on the road, captured on expired film. The film expired some thirteen years before she took her photos, creating new landscapes accompanied by ink and light leaks. To see memories of being five thousand feet above sea level, in the green mountains of Kauai and hear nothing but rain, see only mist and moss on the iron rich red earth below again in her journals, resurrects inspiration for her next painting. Her brushes, kept in a locked drawer to her left, her watercolour paints, in a mahogany box with the ying yang symbol carved into its lid. She opens the box, dips her brush in the rainwater collected, in a glass corked bottle. Somewhere between Billie Holiday, Lana Del Rey, Velvet Underground, and the endless chime of her silver jewellery, her soul begins to speak. With names of her pieces of surfacing as she paints, her visions emerge on paper each inspiring its successor. A flow of intuition, unpredictability, experimentation and energy creates one painting after another.
What do they look like. What is their story. What will her paintings ignite in them. Perhaps a moment of stillness, exchanged through from her own minds eye, into another. She pulls down the rolltop oak lid. Turning the handmade edwardian silver key, locking her memories, travels, stories and paintings inside safely inside, until they are called to their true owner.
